Calcium Chloride Dihydrate Flakes (CaCl₂·2H₂O) are white, irregular-shaped flakes with 74-77% purity. They contain approximately 25% water of crystallization. The flake form offers a practical balance of dissolution speed and handling convenience for industrial applications.

Flakes dissolve faster than pellets due to their larger surface area but are easier to spread evenly than fine powder. Pellets offer the slowest, most controlled dissolution for direct spreading. Powder dissolves the fastest but can be more difficult to handle in windy conditions. Flakes are the most versatile choice for general-purpose de-icing and dust control.

Calcium chloride dihydrate flakes are primarily used for road de-icing, dust control on unpaved roads and construction sites, accelerating concrete setting in cold weather, refrigeration brine solutions, and wastewater treatment. They are also used in some food processing applications when food grade is specified.

Calcium chloride flakes are highly effective for de-icing, melting ice down to -25°F (-32°C). The flakes generate exothermic heat when they contact moisture, penetrating ice layers rapidly. They work faster and at lower temperatures than sodium chloride (rock salt) and are comparable in performance to magnesium chloride, often at a more economical price point.

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area in tightly sealed containers. Although the dihydrate form is less hygroscopic than anhydrous calcium chloride, the flakes will still absorb moisture from the air over time, potentially causing caking. Keep away from moisture and humidity. Under proper storage conditions, shelf life is up to 12 months.
